Two GP surgeries in Islington earmarked for ‘change of ownership’
Two GP practices in Islington could be set to change hands.
AT Medics Ltd, a company providing medical services across London, has announced an upcoming switch in its ownership or management.
The firm is responsible for Hanley Primary Care Centre and Mitchison Road Surgery, as well as others elsewhere in London and England.
NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board (ICB), the body overseeing healthcare provision the area, confirmed it had received a proposal to change the control at AT Medics Ltd.
A spokesperson for the ICB said in a statement: “An application for a change of control is a lengthy process and no decision has been made at this stage.
“As well as undertaking comprehensive due diligence, we will communicate directly with patients throughout this process, including providing opportunities for people to learn more and share their views.”
AT Medics Ltd is owned by Operose Health, which is a subsidiary of the US-based healthcare giant Centene Corporation, which is worth an estimated £32 billion.
Legally, the provider has to first seek consent from the ICB for a change of control in its ownership or management so that the care board can run checks on the proposed new owner.
An Operose Health spokesperson said: “There will be no change to how we deliver primary care. Patients will continue to be seen by the same practice teams and access care in the same way.”
They said patients should continue to use their practice “as normal”.
The ICB will hold a webinar for patients and members of the public on Thursday 29 February to explain the process.
